2016 is going to be an amazing year for me, Why you ask…MOVIES! So in case it isn’t painfully obvious I love comic book movies. In 2016 we have:
- Batman vs. Superman
- Suicide Squad
- Civil War
- Xmen: Apocalyse
- & the movie this post is about Dr. Strange
Who is Dr. Strange?
For those of you who do not know here is a bit of a background on Dr. Strange.
Dr. Steven Vincent Strange (better known simply as Dr Strange) is a superhero created by Stan Lee & Steve Ditko & published by Marvel Comics first appearing in Strange Tales #110 in July 1963.
He was a neurosurgeon who was arrogant and self serving until a car accident severely damaged the nerves in his hands ending his career. Following the accident he travelled to Tibet to meet with the “ancient one” as a last resort to fix his hands by means other than medicine. It was here that he was trained to become Sorcerer Supreme and defend the earth against magical and mystical threats.
The Dr. Strange film is set to be released on November 4 2016. The Synopsis is as follows:
After his career is destroyed, a brilliant but arrogant surgeon gets a new lease on life when a sorcerer takes him under his wing and trains him to defend the world against evil.
What I like about the synopsis is it fits the original origin story to a tee.
So far only one cast member has been announced, a deal was signed last week between Benedict Cumberbatch and Marvel Studios for the title role in the film.
So last week I discussed the casting of Suicide Squad and my feelings on those chosen. This one will definitely be shorter as there is only one actor casted at this point.
Benedict Cumberbatch is best known for playing the title role in the series Sherlock. He has also played characters such as : Smaug in the hobbit trilogy and Khan in Star Trek: into darkness.
I love the choice and I think Cumberbatch will do an amazing job at playing Dr. Strange. To Read more about why check out my post “Why Benedict Cumberbatch will make an awesome Dr. Strange.”
